Town Cleanup And Beautification

2009 What a SUCCESS!

Thank you all for participating in the 2009 Town Cleanup & Beautification!

One of the first action items to tackle was a Community Cleanup. Nina Grobben took this action item by the horns and rallied the community together. Volunteers were garnered, flyers distributed door to door and hung up around town, people with trucks, trailers, dump trucks, loaders and strong backs were enlisted. As the day approached, sometime in April around Earth Day, everyone gathered and began the trek through town. A staging station was set up at Sauvola’s Old Gas Station, walkie talkies were buzzing through the town. “Where are you?” “We need someone to help unload?” “Caravan is moving to Silver Crown street.” What fun the two days were. Tony’s provided coffee and water, volunteers brought potluck food, lots of laughs and hard work. In all that first year was a huge success. This last year we added green waste and tree trimming services.

The town cleanup has happened since 2007. Volunteers meet at the old gas station across from Tony's Market on "Earth Day" weekend. They bring gloves and whatever heavy equipment they have. After the cleanup, we have a pot luck barbeque (bring some food, have some fun). The cleanup has been self funding primarily through the recyling of aluminum cans and vehicle batteries. The volunteers have been reimbursed for gas and dump fees. We recycle anything we can.

Look forward to working with you this year. Cleanup dates are scheduled for April 17th and 18th.
Free Metals Day at the Kettle Falls Landfill is April 25th.

Special thanks to Ray Fitzgerald for the use of his old faithful dump truck. Thank you to all the community volunteers that showed up Saturday or Sunday. It was great to see your smiling faces. A good time was had by all!

Please save your aluminum cans and vehicle batteries for next year's cleanup.
